Historic Downtown Mobile Kitchen Remodel

Built in the late 1800's, this home is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes of America. Known as one of the "twins" or les Jemuelles, the property is located in the historic district of De Tonti Square in downtown Mobile, Alabama. The client wanted an upscale, yet casual, feel to the space. We accomplished this by the use of color, materials, and texture, while still maintaining many of the home's original qualities. The original brick pavers on the floor were refinished and restored, and the original plaster walls received a fresh coat of paint in a soft grey color, which preserved the true architecture of the home. New Crema Marfil tumbled tile laid in a brick patter was used for a backsplash, as well as under-cabinet lighting.

Designer Anne Hans-vanMeter and the client choseWellborn Estate Cusom Collection cabinets, which blended well with the historic nature and quality of this home. For the kitchen perimeter and wet bar area, the Melrose door was selected in Pebble Java finish and for the island we chose Maple Espresso.

The refrigerator and gas stove were relocated, adding a better flow and function to the space and updated to modern professional appliances of a 36" Gas Viking and a built-in Bosch refrigerator. The island was designed to resemble a large furniture piece with chunky mission legs, and utilizes all drawers facing the sink side for optimal storage.

The upper cabinets now go to the 9' ceiling with glass doors, and the crown moulding runs the entire perimeter of the room, similar to the original kitchen. For the wet bar area, a Viking wine chiller was added and glass doors in the upper cabinets to compliment the client's beautiful glassware and accessories.

For more information about this kitchen, or to find out how we can create a space like this for you, please give us a call to set up and appointment or stop by our showroom on Hwy 90 in Mobile, Alabama.

I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted simply just trying to figure out how to
begin. Any ideas or tips? Thanks!
